Public Discussions on Trust and Design

Trust Discussion, Milan Breakfasts Series, Milan Design Fair 2011

Throughout 2011, a public forum is held to focus on topics arising from the latest Trust Design publication to enable a public platform for discussion, debate and commentary on the printed matter. The most recent Trust Design public forums have been held in Amsterdam, Milan and Eindhoven, with more locations to come.

Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven

As part of Dutch Design Week 2011 in Eindhoven, Premsela’s Trust Design and Volume magazine explored the relationship between trust, faith and design in a special edition of the Trust Design debates.

Taking part in the discussion of trust and faith in relation to design was Trust Design project director Scott Burnham; Corien Pompe, Volvo’s chief colour and material designer; Matthijs van Dijk, professor of industrial design at the TU Delft and the author of Vision in Design; designer Mathieu Frossard, student at the Design Academy Eindhoven's IM Masters. The morning discussion was moderated by Premsela's Tim Vermeulen.

PICNIC, Amsterdam

Premsela's Tim Vermeulen and Trust Design's Scott Burnham were joined by noted Internet of Things designer and developer Usman Haque, Amsterdam’s economic policy researcher Katalin Gallyas, Information Designer Richard Vijgen, and Lilet Breddels of Volume Magazine to discuss if we can “program” or “access” trust more effectively in an Internet of Things. Following a panel discussion of an hour, the audience of tech entrepreneurs and developers expanded the discussion.

Milan Design Fair

Trust and design was discussed in an open forum by designers Gijs Bakker and Alberto Meda, famed information designer Joost Grootens, Lilet Breddels of Volume Magazine, Trust Design project director Scott Burnham and moderated by Premsela’s Tim Vermeulen. The discussion, along with contribution and commentary from the audience of design professionals created a rich and layered public debate on the topic.
